‘The Way We Get By' written by Neil Labute, is a look into human connection in its most vulnerable moments. A guy, a girl and a fly on the wall audience. In an hour and a half, we spend a lifetime with Doug and Beth as they navigate the complicated circumstances surrounding their sudden but not unexpected night together. An awkward 4am conversation turns into an intimate exploration of identity and the concept of love.
Played out in real time, Beth and Doug upheave their whole lives, with nothing left unsaid.
‘The Way We Get By’ is a truthful romantic comedy, revealing the depth of the connection between these two people as they have no choice but to say everything they have been too scared to say. Negotiating with themselves, each other, and the world how best to proceed with their relationship, re-discovering what is important in life.
After a successful season in 2023, Jesse and Rosemary are excited to bring ‘The Way We Get By’ to Melbourne Fringe Festival with Luca Romani stepping on board as director!
