ONE FOR US, ONE FOR YOU - 2024 MICF SEASON

Door To Door is proud to present ‘One For Us, One For You: Australia’s Sexiest Sketch Comedy Show’*

Drawing upon the talents and salesmanship of local award-winning performers, writers, international criminals (the fun kind), and far too much HECS debt, ‘One For Us, One For You’ is dedicated to hitting that sweet, sweet spot between comedy that appeals to all (The ‘you’ in this equation! Love Maths!) and then comedy that appeals only to the one or two people who sucked it out from the marrow of their enormous funny bones (The ‘us’ in this equation! Is it possible for an equation to be selfish?).

We hope somewhere in this tug of war, there’ll be a sketch for us and a sketch for you - the holy venn diagram that satisfies us all.

*If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then sexiness lies in the [REDACTED]**

**as sexiness is inherently subjective the title of Sexiest cannot be disproven please don’t sue us.

IN THE WINGS - 2024 MICF SEASON

Is there anything more annoying than a theatre kid?

Ryan and Corey live on two opposite ends of the high school spectrum: the rehearsal room and the footy oval. Together they are tasked with building the set for their high school's musical. Is coexistence possible or will all hell break loose?

Equal parts a celebration and satire, In the Wings is a new play by up-and-coming creatives Charlie Veitch and Rex Cameron which explores the importance of community, belonging, and doing what you love. It's mainly humorous though. Humorous and witty and relatable. It just has a big beating heart at the centre of it.

So, whether you're a seasoned high school thespian or an outsider confounded by the appeal of this strange, often cringe-inducing world, please come along and discover what's really going on…in the wings.

Written by: Charlie Veitch, Rex Cameron

Directed by: Ophelia Hopkins

Cast: Rex Cameron, Charlie Veitch

Akwasi is a Cornwall born, Ghanaian raised, Perth claimed calling Melbourne home stand up comedian.

In Akwasi's new show All In, he talks about selling everything he owned after Melbourne brought an end to the world’s longest Covid-19 lockdowns totalling 262 days to travel across Africa. Akwasi delves into the highs and lows of his trip as well as his emotional state throughout and ultimately what keeps the fire burning inside.

THE SCIENTWITS - 2024 MICF SEASON

The Scientwits are back from their sell-out 2023 seasons with their brand new show. This time, Science Sam (Sammy Harrison) is attempting to broadcast a serious, educational science TV show but typically, Captain Chaos (John Burgos) has other ideas. Bigger ideas. Incorrect ideas. Occasionally explosive and flammable, more exciting ideas!

There will be science, there will be magic. There will be parts of Science Sam on fire, again.

Sadly for Sam, thanks to Captain Chaos and his appalling lack of basic scientific knowledge and attention to detail, nothing will go right. But for you, dear audience, you will be part of another rollicking, high-energy blend of science and comedy that has had ‘The Scientwits’ audiences spellbound and coming back for more and more family friendly fun.

Suitable for audiences from 4 to 4,000,000, this one-of-a-kind and interactive sketch comedy extravaganza is not to be missed!

Performed by Sammy Harrison, AKA Scientist Sam. Science teacher by day, stand-up comedian by night, Sammy is and best known for his sell-out show at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival: ‘Sammy Harrison: Trail and Error – Couch to 100K’ (with all profits donated to Oxfam Australia).

MY BIGGEST FEAR IN AUSTRALIA - 2024 MICF SEASON

Sharks, snakes, or crocodiles. If you think these scare this Asian man, you are wrong. Police, ATO, Chinese secret agents. If you think these scare this Asian man, you are...partly right. But these are not my biggest fears, because my biggest fear is... Let's find out in this show.

Sean Xi Diao was born in China and moved to Australia in 2013. He has been performing stand-up comedy for many years and currently resides in Melbourne. His unique dry humour and silly comedy style have endeared him to people all over the world. Watching Sean on stage is like watching Seinfeld on Netflix with a terrible internet connection because Sean speaks slowly and his English is a bit broken, but the jokes are so silly that you can't switch to other shows. In this comedy show, Sean explores various humorous topics, including his unfortunate Chinese name, light teasing of the Australian language, applying for a Chinese visa, phone apps, and of course, his biggest fear in Australia.

Sean has appeared on Australian TV channels such as ABC, SBS, and local radio programs like RRR. His comedy subjects include Chinese/Australian culture, specific Chinese politics that won't land him in a Chinese jail, self-deprecating humour, everyday life, gender differences, and so on.

"His observations of the irregularities and paradoxes in human nature funny and endearing." —WeekendNote

GET IT UP - 2024 MICF SEASON

Following a rousing premiere at the 2023 Melbourne Fringe Festival, 'Get It Up!' returns!

Capitano Béchamel Duvet dreams of being a bad-boy-sex-magician-pirate-cowboy, but something stands in his way: a men's health issue he dare not name! Could a mystical Antidote to Chaos hold the secret to getting it up or is he destined for another flop? Commedia dell'Arte takes on erectile dysfunction in a fantastical “Hero's Journey” into sex, stage-fright and self-discovery!

Emerging from six years hard time at a private all-boys school, creators Joe Billings and William Hassall realised there was more to each other than sports and locker room banter. They had both been harbouring a love of theatre! Undergoing a second tutelage together at the Clowning Workshop, they were inspired by their taste of Commedia dell'Arte to devise this show. Joe was also fortunate to train in Italy with maestro Antonio Fava, who crafted the mask that is throbbing to be let loose on an unsuspecting audience!

Commedia dell'Arte is a highly stylised and archetypal form of physical comedy. It pulls no punches in lampooning humanity in all its guises. It was born in 16th century Italy and has endured to the present day (though largely relegated to the high school drama curriculum). Capitano Béchamel Duvet is on a mission to make Commedia dell'Arte sexy again.

BANG YOUR MANGOES

Two performers, many characters, a witty script with fresh original songs. A fun mini absurdist musical. Remember it takes two to Mango!

Bang Your Mangoes was inspired by true events. Falling mangoes, an irate waiter, leads to the puzzling human shouting of abuse at mangoes. The abuse of a beautiful fruit in such a public way opened up all manner of artistic possibilities…could it explain why some believe Astral Travel Is real, and why a slightly larger societal cohort remain Non-Goblin Believers?

Psychological analysis of this mango abuse led us to deep exploration of the great human un-answered question. WHAT IS LOVE? Can Masochism be Love??

This show won’t leave you high and dry, like CATS, but will give deeply considered, honest answers to life’s many unfathomable  situations. By sharing our analysis your insight will be heightened to new levels. You’ll meet Bob Hawke, Barry, a qualified plumber and Reiki master, and even take a trip to heaven. Through an examination and explanation of catholic teachings new wisdoms will be revealed.

Written and Performed by Ron and Helen Land. Helen and Ron have always had a love of theatre and music and pursued this throughout their teaching careers - one memorable highlight being a three school production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Whilst running a theatre restaurant, Helen continued to teach and was nominated for Teacher of the Year. Ron has written countless original songs and has played in many duos and as a solo performer. Twisted Tango perform quirky songs incorporating theatrics and some well known covers locally in their home town of Torquay and around the Bellarine Peninsula.

*Recommended for audiences aged 15+.

BETWEEN THE SHEETS - BY JORDI MAND

MECHORSTRA - 2024 MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL

Immerse yourself in the spellbinding world of Mechorstra, a groundbreaking contemporary dance performance choreographed by Artistic Directors Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes in collaboration with the dancers. This innovative and visually striking production is set to be a highlight of the 2024 MidSumma Festival.

Mechorstra is an exploration of the intricate relationship between movement and music. Dancers skillfully emulate an orchestra striving for perfection yet they descend into chaos. This audacious performance pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance, blending elements of ballet, circus and physical theatre to create a unique and unforgettable cultural experience.

Beyond its stunning choreography and artistic execution, Mechorstra holds a deeper resonance. The performance is also crafted around the personal queer stories of Scimm Dance Company's queer-identifying performers. It delves into themes of identity, love, relationships and the stigmas faced both within and outside the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate the diversity and richness of queer experiences.

Mechorstra is more than a contemporary dance performance; it's an emotive journey, a celebration of individuality and a bold statement against societal norms. Join us for this extraordinary display of artistry and expression, and discover a performance that resonates with the hearts and minds of all who witness it.

THE CAME FROM URANUS - 2024 MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL

A tale of lust, sex & perversion in a psychedelic adults-only sci-fi puppet burlesque

Belonging to the oeuvre of the best B-grade trashy sci-fi movies, our tale follows a woman’s courage as she saves the world from an alien invasion and restores universal faith in the great responsibility of our most precious of assets... social influencers.

This hilariously unique show is performed in its own stunningly ornate miniature burlesque theatre and features a dazzling array of shadow puppetry, multi-media projections and "Humanettes", a rarely seen form of puppetry which comprises the puppeteers head with a puppet’s body.

Director James Welsby (Yummy Productions) and his cast of 20 sexsational Humanettes (all played by Murray Raine) are lavishly costumed by Isaac Lummis and introduce us to a world of debauched aliens and glittering burlesque beauties. This show seeks to morph the real into the ridiculous, and to redefine indecency.

If you’re captivated by camp theatre, big hair-dos and retro music then this is one rock’n “adults only” puppet show you do not want to miss!

‘RED’ BY JOHN LOGAN

RED is a tense, reverberating double-header about painter Mark Rothko (Jeremy Smith), at the height of his fame, arrogance and creativity, whilst in the process of creating a series of murals commissioned for the exclusive new Four Seasons Restaurant - at the time the most expensive and lavish art commission in history.

Viewed through the lens of his new, youthful assistant Ken (Zachary Hart), we witness Rothko struggle with his mortality, waning relevance and legacy. Set over the course of two years, they challenge each other to answer the big questions about art: what it means to create, and the ever-changing role of art in a modernising world.

With Book, music and lyrics by Craig Christie and the exciting new score arranged by Craig Bryant, this is a romp of diabolical proportions guaranteed to have you laughing and cheering for the bad guys, at least until you meet them face to face on the street.

Be amongst the first to see a staged concert of this brand new musical by Craig Christie (Creator of Eurobeat) featuring an all star cast of Australian musical theatre’s best performers led by Chelsea Gibb (Chicago, Cabaret) and Anton Berezin (Phantom of the Opera).

SEARCHING FOR BETTY - 2023 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

An unhinged friend request masquerading as a play - SEARCHING FOR BETTY follows anxiety-ridden Lenny on her quest for a best friend. After spending years romanticising her mother’s relationship with college friend Betty, she’s become obsessed with finding her own platonic life partner. Casual friends aren't enough - they have to be the one, exclusive, unfiltered, unabashed, raw and real best friend. This 100% true autobiographical look into finding meaningful friendship in the modern world brings a mix of hilarity, cringiness, and heartfelt moments. With the added spice of audience participation, you can find yourself in the story and connect with themes of disconnect, loneliness, bravery, and self-love.

The desire for friendship is stronger and more relevant than ever in this (kind of) post-pandemic world where we’re all crawling out of our caves and finding ourselves again. Not to mention, the digital age makes it difficult to meet people organically and develop meaningful relationships offline. While we’re still stuck in the patriarchal dark-ages of most media centring female stories around romantic connections, SEARCHING FOR BETTY hasn’t a lick of romance. It’s a story for everyone. It's still kind of like dating, but with more live laugh love and less dick.

You'll leave the show texting your best friend, and maybe mentally calculating who your Myspace Top 8 would be if we were still stuck in 2008.

FOX - 2023 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

Welcome to the highway, a fast dog-eat-dog world - a grimy artery drawing and yielding from the big smokes.

This is the home of Fox, Australia's favourite pest, and quickest, most handsome villain. Go with them as they show you this life on the highway, via a comedic, theatrical experience that speaks directly to, and places the audience at the centre. They will introduce you to their friends - a suite of mangy animals all co-existing in a world dominated by humans. And wrestle with the fact that they quietly represent what Australia finds unsavoury... about itself.

This show is 60 minutes of whimsy and wit with a big heart. Faster than a Mack truck in the right lane, as dogged as the P Plater in the blue ute tailgating you and with all the joy of a road trip amongst dear friends, 'Fox' entertains whilst confronting white Australia with the importance of acknowledging one's positionality in this country today.

Directed by Solomon Rumble, produced by Jess Lu, written and performed by Meg Taranto as FOX and starring Clover Blue as CROW, alongside a small ensemble of brilliant entertainers, FOX is absurdist, political, camp, hilarious, a theatrical romp featuring new Australian writing and work from emerging artists.

HEY - 2023 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

'HEY' is the first dance Weichen made after her return to Melbourne. Originally from China, Weichen spent considerable time dancing in Australia and the U.S. This work came from her nomadic experience, regardless of distance. It embodies the metabolism of the human body and its connection to nature, culture, and society.

Haocheng, a Chinese graphic designer formerly residing in Belgium, joined Weichen’s work after his relocation to Melbourne. Together, they wish to create a work that reflects their genuine experience as Chinese artists living overseas.

Self Love is a comedic musical about a lonely man who makes a friend... by cloning himself! This exploration of narcissism and relationships answers the age-old question of whether we would fight our clone or fall in love with it.

ONLY WHAT REMAINS IS BEAUTIFUL - 2023 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

An original theatre piece by Ty Liebelt, Only What Remains Is Beautiful is an hour-long real-time anecdote; exploring the fog of social trauma and its presence within identity.

Imagine a soothsayer. A Tiresias sort of character. They've got all the cosmic wisdom that everyone craves. But they've also got that eccentric awkwardness that no one can tolerate for a second. Now imagine a day when this soothsayer steps out of their cave to discover that The Apocalypse has happened. And they slept through the whole thing!

More alone than ever before, our soothsayer sets out on a journey. Where? They haven't the foggiest. Why? They're...still working that out. To find what, exactly? Someone! ANYONE! Just. One. Other. Human. Because despite this empty planet, the soothsayer can still hear voices... Echoes amidst the rubble...

Only What Remains Is Beautiful is a uniquely layered, absurdist tale about redefining loneliness. A desperate, bewildered and soul-building pilgrimage to the very literal ends of the earth.

Think 'Fleabag' meets Samuel Beckett meets a post-apocalyptic walking simulator video game.

*Content warnings: Contains mild coarse language, infrequent sexual references, discussion of suicide/self harm, death, war and mental health. Audience rating - M.
