A SUCCULENT CHINESE MUSICAL?! - 2026 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

Jack Karlson was a notorious crim: car thief, factory burglar and serial prison escapee, but he could never guess that for all his misdeeds, he'd become a world-famous meme for his verbose and theatrical 1991 arrest. This very serious theatre work tells Karlson's life story, and shows us the pivotal moments in his life that (may have) inspired his great monologue. The musical numbers are 100% historically accurate.

So get your hand off my p----, learn your judo well, and ask yourself: what is the charge? Performing a musical?! A Succulent Chinese Musical?!

“WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPEAK TO MY MANAGER?” - 2026 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

Eimear works in retail. Everyday is pretty-much the same. She clocks in, stands at her little service desk, checks the clock on the wall...then checks it again and daydreams about her life outside these four walls of a department store. It's a humble job, someone's gotta do it, and she doesn't really mind. Until that customer service bell begins to ring...repetitively..."I'm standing right here!"

Written and directed by Siobhan Paterson and performed by Eimear Cunningham, this zany slice-of-life one-woman comedy play takes you through the motions of a typical day working in retail. From customers returning air fryers filled with fish (true story), to exasperating co-workers insulting your hair (an even truer story), nothing quite makes sense and time is meaningless.

Dedicated to those who are just trying to get by, Eimear explores her deepest insecurities as she recounts various outrageous tales from the work day aimed to make you laugh - and maybe cry.

*Contains light audience participation, strong coarse language, references to workplace violence and sexual harassment, sudden loud noises, references to suicide, political, religious and racial themes mentioned. Recommended for ages 15+.

NOBLE F**KING GENTLEMEN - 2026 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

A one act satirical/absurdist stage play, with relatable characters and humorous moments that snap into times of darkness, sadness, anger, and reflection.

Big costumes. Big personalities. Real stories. 'Noble F**king Gentlemen' is a self-devised work made by a group of emerging artists studying theatre at Deakin University. This non-naturalistic piece uses personal texts written by the artists about womanhood, and their experiences. In a new world where men in power have taken a whole new form, the Noble Gentlemen make a comment on how we as a society have gone back in time.

The themes and personal experiences resonate universally, and aim to captivate audiences with humour and vulnerability.

TIPPING POINT 2029 - A DRAMATISED COMMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE

A live discussion in a TV-Show in Europe triggered worldwide panic – for the first time it was officially announced that the earth has reached the “Tipping Point”, the point of no return in the destruction of the environment. Climate Change with a non-reversible perspective.

In typical Australian fashion an Australian free-to-air TV station wants to be the first in the southern hemisphere to take on the topic and has invited internationally renowned personalities to calm the situation down by informing the population about the “facts” and “data” available instead of spreading fear and innuendo.

It is accomplished TV-Presenter Bettina Roland’s job to work out the most positive outlook into the future from the discussion she is leading.

Get an intriguing look behind the scenes of this TV production that has no precedence, the tensions and the unmasked truth of a panel discussion recorded but not live streamed…for a reason.

Is that the future – our future?

This new Australian play by Wolf Heidecker is based on a book by German Futurist, scientific environmental activist, and Futurism-Philosopher Werner Mittelstaedt who, in close cooperation with his Australian writing partner, provided the actual figures and facts referred to in the script.

BFFN: BEST FRIENDS FOR NOW - 2025 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

In a world of situational soulmates, Work wives and the uni friends you keep promising to get a drink with - It seems impossible to have a best friend anymore. And we mean a true best friend. A sandbox playing, BFF necklace wearing, laugh-till-you-cry friend.

Join Ella and Hannah as they navigate the tumultuous terrain of making childhood friends as adults.

BFFN: Best Friends For Now is a 60 minute comedy cabaret about two strangers who are lonely and practical. Why not wait for a friendship to grow, when we can be Best Friends, right now?

BFFN is about bringing back the silliness of what it means to know someone completely. It's about re-learning how to make friendships that ignore the ‘niceties’ of going to a wine bar or a brunch date, and instead exist wheezing with laughter on a bedroom floor. It explores how much of friendship is just physical proximity and undying loyalty to a person.

This show begs the question - Do you actually like your mates? Or were they just around at the time?

*Content warning: Contains coarse language.

THE “DIVERSITY” QUOTA - 2025 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

Chantrea Yung charms with a cute, shy exterior that quickly gives way to deadpan weirdness and savage one-liners — the kind that sneak up on you and leave you stunned. Kiara Ariza Stellato injects sharp political sass and melodrama, turning every joke into a mini protest with a side of flair. Together, Chantrea and Kiara bring a fearless energy that’s equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. Ruby Stewart brings dry wit, cheeky chaos, and a theatrical flair that’s as confident and fluid as their gender, effortlessly blending identity and irreverence to keep you laughing and thinking. Then there’s Sam Kelly, our token white boy—whose charmingly clueless, conversational style and everyday observations offer a lighthearted counterpoint to the sharp edges of the others. The rest roast him relentlessly; he takes it like a champ (ally).

Eight shows, four voices, Zero filters. Punchlines, personal stories, and light public shaming.

The HR-approved diversity you didn’t know you needed. Representation has never been this unhinged.

CHANGELING - 2025 MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

A Child was born before midnight, beneath the wild eastern wind…

This is a small rural community; a community of masks, a community of personas, where fairies are evil and folklore are accepted as universal truths, and the biggest threat of all, is the changeling child.

So when a Child begins to display unnatural traits and skills, the community is steeped in fear.

Changeling is a new play that explores the stigma experienced by disabled and neurodivergent people through the lens of ‘masked’ theatre. Based on European folklore and inspired by the likes of The Crucible, this play delves into the damage of ‘othering’, the dangers of collective paranoia and mob mentality... within a world bearing eerie similarities to our own.

Changeling presents a raw and provocative reflection on identity, belonging and the cost of authenticity in a community steeped in intolerance.

Content Warnings: Contains references to infanticide, homicide, miscarriages; depictions of child abuse and abandonment, gendered violence, death onstage, discrimination against disability, violence; and themes of ostracisation and body image.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

This preposterous and flamboyant production of The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical play by Oscar Wilde about two bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape what they believe are their mundane lives. Both men use this deception to woo women who are fixated on the name "Ernest".

Celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodying and gently satirising late Victorian manners, this version of the play deems to poke fun at quintessential Britishness and the pomposity of the upper class.

We bring to you two Victorian philanderers (which could be putting it nicely), Jack and Algernon, as well as the likes of the formidable Lady Bracknell, the glamorous Gwendolen Fairfax, the ever-curious Cecily Cardew, the bumbling Dr Frederick Chasuble, the indifferent Miss Laetitia Prism, ever devoted Lane and Merriman, as well as A Handbag!

*Content warning: This play is very funny, but does include a lot of innuendos.Recommended for ages 12+.

OEDIPUS REX

Long before democracy or science, before the world could explain plague and poison, there was a myth that tried. A city on its knees. A leader desperate for truth. Over 2000 years since Sophocles’ exploration of power, fate, and truth through the myth of Oedipus Rex, this production is as relevant as ever. Now in an era defined by rising temperatures, collapsing ecosystems and corporate greed, Sophocles’ question stands more urgent than ever. What does it mean to discover you are the source of your people’s suffering?

This new staging of Oedipus reimagines the myth in the aftermath of ecological disaster, where prophecy and science blur and the gods feel far distant. This ruined Thebes is haunted by plague and scarcity, where ancient prophecy meets environmental ruin. This production explores guilt, blindness, and the price of leadership. Sophocles’ myth has become a warning: a meditation on blindness, chosen and inherited, and the unbearable weight of understanding too late.

*Content warning: Contains discussions of infanticide, death, incest, homicide, environmental collapse, depictions of self harm and suicide. Use of loud, sudden sounds, strobe lighting and flashing lights, graphic visual gore. Moments of intense emotional distress and psychological breakdown. Recommended for ages 14+.

BLACKROCK - A PLAY BY NICK ENRIGHT

It’s Toby Ackland’s birthday party down near the surf club and that should mean heaps of grog, drugs and good clean fun. But by the morning a young girl is dead, raped by three boys and bashed with a rock.

Who is responsible? The boy? The girl? Or the whole town.

Blackrock, playwright Nick Enright’s play about a teen party which culminates with a brutal rape and murder on the beach, was deeply disturbing when it was written 30 years ago.

Sadly many of the themes, which swirl around the narrative after the tragic event, still resonant today as Australia struggles with issues of domestic abuse, respect and gender equality.

Blackrock was originally adapted from a 45-minute piece by Enright, “A Property of the Clan”, that was inspired by the sexual assault and murder of 14-year-old Leigh Reannea Mears, near Newcastle in 1989. The award-winning play premiered in 1995, became a film in 1997, and was critically acclaimed.

Lunatix presents this intimate and strongly shaped human drama focusing in on the social forces behind the male impulse to violence and the community’s response in the aftermath, which are actively relevant in today society.

Featuring a strong cast of performers including, Flecther Von Arx, Bailey Griffiths, Sabrina Rault, Olivia Mitchell, Javier Lumsden, James Parker, Samuel John, Isabel Dickson, Charlotte Palmer, Cassandra Hart and Hayley Michaels.

*Content warning: Contains coarse language, violence, assault, misogyny, suicide references, murder, rape, sexual assault and cancer. Recommended for ages 14+.
